A manuscript commonplace book, written in at least two different hands. The title page, on a pasted-on illustration, reads: Album; Dedicated to Catharine Cockburn by J.P.C. 1823. A label pasted to the inside of the lower board reads: Concluded at Brighton, Oct. 11th 1825. The album includes 40 original illustrations, predominantly pen-and-wash; some are done directly onto the page, but most are on separate slips of paper and have been pasted in. Many of the illustrations in the later part of the volume are on cards with an embossed frame-border. The landscapes feature views of Scotland, Italy, and Brighton. Some illustrations are accompanied by verse or prose about the place depicted. The text is predominantly verse, with a number of works by and about Lord Byron (complete poems include "I Saw thee Weep" and "Inscription on the Monument of a Newfoundland Dog", as well as stanzas LXXVIII, LXXIX, XCIX, CII and CIII of Canto IV of "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage", an extract from "The Giaour" and several shorter quotations).
